Photographic Exhibition - ‘Street Life Project 2009’

Streetlife 2009 is a photographic project being run through St Patrick’s Community Support Centre in Fremantle and funded by CANWA (Community Arts Network WA). The current economic climate has seen an increase in clients at St Patrick’s and the aim of ‘Streetlife 2009’ is to give the homeless and disadvantaged in our society a sense of identity through their own visual documentation of the world around them. This project provides the opportunity to give ‘voice’ and will also be a celebration of these peoples talents, tenacity and survival.

Woolstores Shopping Centre will host an exhibition from 23 November – 29 November. Included in the exhibition will be stories, photos and digital narratives that showcase these peoples unique perspective. This unique exhibition aims to create a forum to increase understanding and decrease the isolation and social exclusion associated with homelessness and poverty.

Art Teacher, Pia Sweeting, invites everyone to enjoy this exhibition. “It is a celebration of these people’s talents, tenacity and survival.”
