Woolstores – tourist shopping destination

Back to all articles

Woolstores Shopping Centre is situated in the heart of Fremantle and is open 7 days, so provides for all your everyday shopping needs while on holiday.

The centre is directly over the road from both the Fremantle Train Station and the Fremantle Passenger Terminal, so is a great option for tourists visiting the area. There is also a car parking station on-site for those with their own vehicle.

You’ll find a large Coles Supermarket, plus over 20 speciality shops and ATM’s, including a liquor store, chemist, newsagency, fresh produce, art supplies, plus massage therapy, beauty, food, fashion and other service options.

Shopping is just one of the many things to do while you’re in Fremantle - you may also like to visit some of the key tourist sites, take a walking tour or enjoy some of our local cuisine.

Nearby tourist sites (within easy walking distance) include:
Town Hall, Round House, Fishing Boat Harbour, Fremantle Tourist Wheel, WA Museum Shipwreck Galleries, Esplanade Reserve Park and Victoria Quay. The WA Maritime Museum and Fremantle Arts Centre are both a little bit further on the outskirts of Fremantle CBD, but are accessible via the free Fremantle CAT bus and well worth a look.

Visitors to Fremantle may be interested to know more about the heritage of the Whadjuk Nyoongar Aboriginal people of the South West region of Western Australia, which goes back tens of thousands of years. Learn some of the stories of the Aboriginal inhabitants, past and present by taking a walking tour with an indigenous guide or visit one of the Aboriginal art galleries around Fremantle.

There are many heritage buildings and interesting colonial architecture to be seen around the city since settlement by Europeans in the 1800s. In fact the Woolstores Shopping Centre building was previously used as a wool classing and processing facility, hence some of the historic equipment on display at our pylon sign on Cantonment Street and the old wooden beams that have been retained inside the centre itself. Take a look for yourself when you visit the centre.
